Edinburgh is the capital of Scotland which is in the central region of the country has a population of approximately 450,000. The Old and New Towns of Edinburgh were listed as World Heritage Sites by UNESCO in 1995. In 2004, Edinburgh became the first member of the UNESCO Creative Cities initiative when it was designated as the City of Literature.


Few Unknown Facts about Edinburgh:
  • The town did not really begin to grow until the twelfth century when David I built what would later become Edinburgh Castle which was actually built with help of an extinct volcano. The rest of the town’s inhabitants were likely farmers, with perhaps a scattering of tradesmen. 
  • Edinburgh Castle is the most recognizable landmark in the city, it sits atop a volcanic peak and dominates the city skyline. 
  • Near Edinburgh Castle on the Royal Mile is the Camera Obscura and World of Illusions. This attraction has two main features – first, it has several floors featuring optical illusions, light tricks, old-fashioned games, and magic displays which we had a lot of fun playing with.
  • To add more Edinburgh was the first city in the world to have its own fire service for the safety of people.
  • It is the only city in the world which has more number of trees per head of the living population.
  • It is the city which has more number of listed buildings.
  • The city is the stage for many of the festivals and events such as World's Largest Arts Event and the famous Edinburgh's International Book festival which takes place during the month of February and March

Local Attractions in the Edinburgh


 
Edinburgh Castle: Considered as the place which dominates the skyline of the city, Edinburgh Castle was built on the extinct volcano and it is one of the most attacked place in the global history. It is one of the common and the most preferred tourist spot in the city which majorly consist of war memorials and architectural subjects on the olden days.
 
Palace of Holyroodhouse: Located just opposite to the Edinburgh Castle is the Palace of Holyroodhouse which has served as palace for many kings and queens especially the great Queen Elizabeth. It still has the high-house utilities and the rooms which are used by the kings and queens are open to public which also includes the Great Architecture Gallery.

 
Surgeons Hall Museums: The Surgeons Hall Museums are considered as the one of oldest museums in Scotland. It is the official headquarters for the famous Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. It mainly consist of the surgical memorabilia collections in the field of Dentistry, Radiology and histopathology. The Hall also included the collections of many ancient articles, newspapers, models and surgical instruments.

Rosslyn Chapel: Being one of the impeccable and finest structure in the city of Edinburgh Rossyln Chapel construction was started in the 14th Century and it was considered as the most sacred ground for the local Catholics during the period of sinclair who is the founder of the Rosslyn Chapel. The iconic significance of the building was the Crypt which is present in the lower level of the Chapel and it is believed that the mummified head of Jesus Christ and various jewels and treasure crowns of the Scottish royal family were buried inside the Crypt.

 
Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art: The Scottish Gallery consist of Numerous Arts, Sculptures, Drawings and ancient book collections of high places and royal family. The Gallery consist of two phases - i) Modern One and ii) Modern Two. Various sculptures by famous artists are preserved from the 19th century.


Dean Village: Considered as the center of attraction in the city of Edinburgh and it has most charming and excellent surrounding along with the exemplary scenes. It was once the residence for the industrial workers present along the deep valley and even some of the worker are seen there. It is one of the most calm and soothing place in the city.


Inchcolm Island: It is one of the islands in the Firth of Forth and it is was founded by King Alexander 1 when he was forced to seek protection in the island during a storm. The Island is surrounded by 2 beaches and plenty of hills around where best view of the nature can seen.


Dugald Stewart Monument: It is iconic monument known in the city of Edinburgh and a common visiting place in Scotland. It's structure the circular temple of eight fluted Corinthian columns around an elevated urn, on a circular podium gives the attractive view for the visitors. It was constructed as a memorial for the great mathematician Dugald Stewart.

Expert's fruition- The success story of 27th Euro Dentistry Congress
